Make Christmas Merry

Thanks to the generosity of our donors we were able to provide Christmas gifts for 59 children this holiday season. The parents and guardians who were struggling this year to create a Christmas for their children were beyond grateful!

The way this program works is that each year we receive gift items and monetary donations (that we in turn use to purchase age appropriate gift items). We then take all of the gift items and set up our office lobby as a “holiday shop”. We invite families who have faced recent fires, disasters or other emergency situations to come in and “shop” for their children.

Every child receives a pack of socks, a pack of underwear, pajamas, other clothing items as needed, a winter coat if needed, a blanket, a stuffed animal, and around 4 major gift items, such as toys, games, craft kits, book sets, etc. Each child also received stocking stuffers and a coloring book and crayons.

Holiday Open House

Thank you to everyone who helped with and who attended our first ever Holiday Open House, at our new office.
We kicked off the evening with our Ribbon Cutting ceremony to celebrate the new, permanent home, of the United Way of Greater Hartsville. We then moved indoors for our Holiday Open House and to host our first Connections After Hours Event. This event was our opportunity to Thank all of our building donors, who helped make our new home possible, as well as invite the community in to see our new location and hear more about our programs and what we do for Greater Hartsville.
We also took this opportunity to announce our new "Give Where You Live" campaign.
It was a fantastic evening!

Changing Our Name
Expanding our Outreach

We are now… United Way of Greater Hartsville

We've changed our name to represent all those in our community who we help. The United Way of Hartsville has always worked alongside the United Way of Darlington to provide assistance to all of Darlington County. However, our reach was made official this year, with the closure of the United Way of Darlington. It's important to remind everyone that your support directly impacts the community YOU live in. So, if you live in Hartsville, your support benefits Hartsville; if you live in Society Hill, your support benefits Society Hill; and so on. We appreciate the support we've received from our community. We could not ask for a better place to Serve, Work and Live.

Thank You!

We would like to send a huge THANK YOU to all of the companies who helped us get our new office ready by donating time and services.

Albert Wingfield did our interior remodeling, Bryan Griggs HVAC & Electrical helped with all of our electrical inside and out, Danny Johnson & Keith Chafin of North Industrial Machine & Curry Dawkins of Dawkins Concrete put in our new walkway and sidewalk, Ricky Anderson of Sandhills Roofing who completed our roofing & gutter repairs, Mark & Eunice Schowalter for our new handcrafted bookcase, Lowe’s for providing all of our paint and Greg DeLong, our volun”told” maintenance man and punch-list finisher.

We could not have completed this project without our generous donors who provided the funding for this project, Sonoco, Jody & Donna Dunlap, Paul & Ashley Reardon, Dick & Sylvia Puffer, and Dr. Richard & JoAnn Conner. We could not be happier with how our new office has come together and we look forward to being able to serve our community in even bigger ways, out of our new headquarters!

We invite everyone to stop in and see us, anytime!

Operation Sweet Dreams

Operation Sweet Dreams is a bed program that is unique to the United Way of Greater Hartsville. This program started in 2016 when our Director became aware of the alarming number of children in the Greater Hartsville area who were not sleeping in a bed at night, many of whom had never had a bed of their own. One of the main goals of the United Way is the advancement of education and no child can be expected to do their very best in school each day, when they are spending each night sleeping on a cold floor. With that in mind, the bed program started. Since its inception, the program has grown to also provide beds to Senior Citizens and Fire/Disaster Victims who’ve lost everything. To date, with help from our generous donors, we have provided more than 1300 beds to children, seniors, and disaster victims within the Greater Hartsville community.

As part of this program, each child (max of 3 per household) receives a bed frame, mattress and they are able to come into the office to select a comforter and sheet set from our “Bed Room”. They also receive a pillow, stuffed animal and age appropriate books.

Nothing beats the smile on a child’s face when they realize that “this bed” is just for them!
